Wexford Football League Division Five

All Blacks  3  Tombrack United  1

Our men's second team put in a hard working determined performance against promotion chasing All Blacks before eventually going down 3-1. After last weeks strong performance against Shelburne, the lads did not start this game strongly and Evan Murphy was called on to make two excellent saves before Tombrack settled into any shape and began to press forward. However, All Blacks got the break on twenty minutes when a good cross found their forward unmarked and headed to the back of the net. This gave Tombrack a lift and went in search of an equaliser which eventually came ten minutes later when Daniel Vickers found space in the box and shot past the advancing keeper. Evan continued to impress in the goal with a couple of saves, one of them saw him being caught high on the chest by the studs of the incoming attacker. Thankfully, he was able to carry on but a few minutes later, the home side found space on the right and there was no stopping the shot as it nestled in the corner to give All Blacks a 2-1 half time lead.

The second half continued in the vein of the first with some bruising tackles as James Kavanagh picked up a knock in a clash which will leave him with a nasty mark. Josh McMullen, Savo and Mikey Roche all went close before the game was killed off with fifteen minutes to go when they were awarded a penalty and it was duly scored

This was a tough encounter against a side still eager to get promoted but Tombrack showed more grit and determination in the second half as they continue to build in preparation for a promotion push in the new season. This game saw the return of Mikey Roche as well as an appearance from Buggy but overall a good team performance and the lads can now prepare for the final game of the season away to Glynn Barntown
